January 22, 2015 -- The 107 identifications for 2014 by the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command came primarily from remains linked to the Korean War (42), World War II (36) and the site of a 1952 crash of an Air Force cargo plane into Mount Gannett in Alaska (17). March 31, 2014 -- Secretary of Defense, Chuck Hagel, announces plans to reorganize the POW/MIA Accounting Community. DOD to form a new agency consolidating DPMO, JPAC and elements of the Life Science Equipment Laboratory under this new agency. This reorganization will take 19 months to complete. October 10, 2013 -- JPAC admits to phony ceremonies honoring ‘returning’ remains. The Department of Defense unit charged with recovering service members’ remains abroad has been holding phony “arrival ceremonies” for seven years, with an honor guard carrying flag-draped coffins off of a cargo plane as though they held the remains returning that day from old battlefields. August 1, 2013 -- House Sub-Committee on Military Personnel and the Senate Sub-Committee on Financial and Contracting Oversight have hearings scheduled for August 1st. House hearing begins at 8 AM. Senate hearing starts at 10:30.

July 7, 2013 -- Scathing internal report calls JPAC efforts to recover remains of missing servicemen "acutely dysfunctional." According to the Associated Press "The Pentagon's effort to account for tens of thousands of Americans missing in action from foreign wars is so inept, mismanaged and wasteful that it risks descending from "dysfunction to total failure," according to an internal study suppressed by military officials."
The article continues, "The report paints a picture of a Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command, a military-run group known as JPAC and headed by a two-star general, as woefully inept and even corrupt." To read the full article click here.
